Electro-Mechanical Technician

About V-Glass

V-Glass, Inc. is a Waukesha, Wisconsin–based technology company developing vacuum insulated glass (VIG) for ultra-high-efficiency windows. Our next-generation glazing delivers superior thermal performance and an extended service life, helping the building sector significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Backed by substantial funding and strategic industry partnerships, V-Glass is positioned to lead the transition to a new standard in window technology.

Position Summary

V-Glass is seeking a hands-on Electro-Mechanical Technician to support the development, operation, and continuous improvement of the equipment used to manufacture vacuum insulated glass. Working in a fast-paced research and development environment, this individual will contribute to machine installation, trials, debugging, upgrades, and prototype builds.

The successful candidate will first learn the full VIG fabrication process and then play a key role in converting manual operations into automated production. Each process is an evolving work cell incorporating robotics, motion control, pneumatic and vacuum systems, PLCs, and material-handling equipment. This role is well suited to a self-motivated technician who enjoys solving new problems, learning new skills, and balancing a variety of programming, wiring, and mechanical tasks while managing competing priorities.

Technical Environment

Programming and integrating our work cells requires the ability to move fluidly between languages, methods, and communication protocols. Our current systems include:

  • Programming: C, BASIC, ladder logic, and Python
  • Communication protocols: EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and discrete I/O
  • Equipment: robotics, motion systems, pneumatic systems, vacuum systems, PLCs, and handling equipment

Reading wiring diagrams, schematics, and datasheets, applying structured troubleshooting techniques, and leveraging external resources—including suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and AI tools—are part of the daily work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble, disassemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair electro-mechanical equipment used in the production of vacuum insulated glass.
  • Support the transition of manual processes to automated work cells, including programming, wiring, integration, and debugging.
  • Install, commission, and upgrade equipment, and support process trials and quality testing.
  • Build functional prototypes to support technology development.
  • Contribute to process development and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment and methods.
  • Interpret complex assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and test procedures.
  • Use electronic test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal analyzers, and megohmmeters.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate repair, test, and process documentation.
  • Develop and execute project plans in accordance with established timelines.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent military technical experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience as an electrical and/or mechanical technician.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including the ability to resolve complex issues where no established precedent exists.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently through effective prioritization and time management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools and their safe operation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to performing work safely, effectively, and efficiently.
Work Schedule, Travel, and Physical Requirements
  • Standard hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; overtime may be required based on business needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support technology development.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds periodically and to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods during a normal workday.
Employment Eligibility
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer background check and drug screening.
